Updatedness :)

What a weird month. I’ve dumped the old boyfriend, traded up to a new one, rediscovered how awesome Star Trek is, pissed off my former best friends because I have no more patience for men who treat women badly, started the hunt for a new city apartment, and had he flu to top it all off- twice. Yay.

All up though, I’m feeling pretty good at the moment. Work’s going well, my new (younger) boyfriend is awesome and I genuinely haven’t been so happy with a guy for many years. I’ve gone back to my nerdy roots (where I belong) and I finally made that pink Transformers T-Shirt I’ve been talking about for a while. But yeah, all this change has made me a bit distracted, so if you haven’t heard from me for a while that’s probably why! P.S. New photos from Supanova Pop Culture Expo, including me and Jewel Staite (Kaylee from Firefly & Serenity) coming soon…

South Park Easter

Random easter- themed funness. Enjoy!

Facebook marketing propoganda

Well, I’ve successfully managed to go a whole week without video-documenting something. Hooray! (My friends convinced me to stay away from video blogging while recovering from dental surgery this time).

But what will I distract myself with if I’m not making documentary videos about random stuff?

Facebook.
…Feel the addictiveness.

It kind of shits me that Superwall has become yet another avenue to spread meaningless forwarded drivel/ aka spam rather than being an avenue for conversation and relationship building [over the internet] which I suspect it was originally intended to be (…or something like that).

Tonight’s my favourite marketing lecturer’s birthday, and that got me thinking about all the cool stuff she taught us about Integrated Marketing Communication, and how marketing has to change from the obsolete methods of yesteryear; Niche marketing vs. mass marketing; 1 on 1 relationship building rather than blanket advertising which treats everyone like a faceless clone. They have no choice if they want to sell stuff now. Generation-Y public caught onto what they were doing before, and are naturally suspicious of mass advertising (or of anyone who assumes they understand their individual needs and wants when clearly they don’t).

Anyway, I was thinking that all the forwarded chain letters on Facebook are kinda like the mass marketing of yesteryear which everyone hates so much (kinda like it but not). It’s the whole “lets send a bunch of stuff out to hundreds of random people to make it look like we care about them as a person, but really we don’t give an arse, as long as they see it comes from us and hence they think of us-albeit briefly- so as to increase our brand awareness”. Am I right??

P.S. Just to be crazy/ random, here’s me with a sparkly pink butterfly and a boat I’m thinking of buying…

Me & the boat I might possibly own someday

VideoBlog #3 Narelle’s Visit to the Hospital!

November 02nd, 2007 | Category: Random Rants, Made up word of the day, My Videos, Fresh Photos

See… I don’t only video myself ;p

Beware if you are ever caught out in an ambulance when I have my digital camera on hand! Several days ago my housemate Narelle had a bit of a medical emergency and had to be taken to the emergency room. I got to ride up front in the ambulance- along with my school bag full of uni books and notes to finish my assignment (it was due the following day and I still had lots to do… “what do you mean it’s illegal to plug my laptop into the wall at the hospital? Surely there is some sort of wireless internet hub thingy around the place?….no?… oh crap”).

Since I couldn’t finish my assignment I found something even ‘funner’ to do… film EVERYTHING!

Hospital Buddies Me Gabrielle reading us fairy stories

And some video interviews!…
(Note: these will open in a new window. They are mpeg-4 format.
If you can’t see them let me know and I’ll try to put it
in another format or help you fix your machine so it will play it :)

P.s. See if you can find my made-up word of the day somewhere in these videos!

Reconnecting…

Lately I have been reconnecting… to magick… and to myself.

Why is it, whenever I am sick, is when I most actively endeavor to reconnect with magick, and the Divinity within? Is it because normally I am too busy (a mere excuse!) and too wrapped up in life and being a university student to stay grounded? In the midst of chaos, it is all too easy to become uncentred, to fall out of the “flow” until- oh crap- I’ve disconnected again and attracted an ailment to remind me of where I’m supposed to be. Thankyoouuuu! I get the message…

My recovery this time around has involved a lot of de-stressing, a lot of inner-reflection, and a lot of creative visualisation. I have even taken the time out from uni to reconnect with my wiccan studies through Witchschool. (I’m a lifetime member. I find the structured lessons very helpful against my general unstructuredness (-made up word of the day!)

Here is a sneak peek into some of the things I have written in my witchy diary (Book of Light & Shadows) recently…

Magick is… entwining with the Divine.

I stand at the threshold between the world of magick and the world of the mundane.

To connect with magick is to come face to face with the Creator; to stare infinite possibilities straight in the eye.
