I’ve decided that there are too many things on planet Earth that fascinate me, that I want to study, and that even if I live to be 200, I would barely scratch the surface. So I’ll just have to come back in another lifetime, seriously warp time, and/or live for hundreds of years like they used to in the Bible. (What happened? When and how did we stop living to be over 400 years old? What up Methuselah?)
And the books- the books I want to read! I seriously need to learn to speed read or something. I don’t read any fiction these days (I prefer to get my fiction fix through movies, which I love). But I’m quite big on spiritual & personal development, how-to, and other interesting non-fiction books, because I’m always striving to improve my life, and I’m an ideas person.
It’s bad enough the long list of modern books I have yet to read and absorb, but add to that the ancient texts that tweak my interest, and I could seriously be here for thousands of years catching up on everything I want to learn about.
Since I’m a former/”still a little bit Pagan” priestess chick, fascinated by the various mysteries of the universe; past cultures and their spiritual and mystical practices interest me. I sometimes see myself as a female version of an ancient seer or wizard who lives in a huge cave or tower just filled with all sorts of magick books and manuscripts. I’m so into that stuff. (Even though I’m now a pretty faithful Mormon/Latter Day Saint).
Not long ago I watched a fascinating documentary called “Banned from the Bible” (I think they also made a sequel?) It’s about the “Lost Books of the Bible” that are no longer considered part of the Canon of the Christian Bible as it exists in our modern day culture. Many of these books were referred to in the Bible by its various authors, but never expounded upon. And others were known to have existed in biblical times and been popular in their day, but were left out of the edited collection of books and letters that we now know as the Bible, for various reasons. (I’m far from being a biblical scholar, so look it up if you’re interested, it’s fascinating stuff).
So, on the topic of books and ancient texts, I have a growing reading list of ancient inspired texts that I’d love to sink my teeth into someday… The Dead Sea Scrolls…The Book of Enoch…The Gospel of Mary Magdelene… The Life of Adam and Eve… The Gospel of the Egyptians… The Infancy Gospel of Thomas (about the childhood of Jesus)… The Protovangelian of James… the Gnostic library… just a few…so much to ponder and learn, so many ideas!
I am also into Hermeticism, and ‘The Kybalion‘ is one of the most mind-blowing things I’ve ever read. I still remember clearly the first time I read it. I looked it up online after my teacher, Doreen Virtue, mentioned it during one of her Angel Intuitive courses that I was blessed to volunteer at, as a former graduate. I remember literally being stunned- staring at the computer screen in awe, not moving for ages, because I had just understood some of the mysteries of the universe, and suddenly life made more sense. I felt like I’d uncovered something sacred and beautiful and magickal, that few would dare to understand. There aren’t many books since that have made me feel that way.
I’m currently reading ‘The Book of Mormon‘ for the second time, and it’s full of BRILLIANCE. But I’ll leave a discussion of that for another time, because I think I’ve rambled on for one post, and I could honestly go on for pages more.
I’ll leave you with that documentary I was talking about, “Banned from the Bible”. Gotta love the YouTubes! (Click link below for parts 2 – 9).
